Let's hope VW keeps to its penchant for keeping things 
compatible so the new engine will bolt into/onto the older
cars.  I wouldn't mind a Mk 1 Scirocco (light weight)
powered by a new TDI (big torque).  Fast off the line 
and good "gas" mileage, too.
