Chi,
Nice write up. As you have seen (sorry list, can't post a photo essay,
no digi-cam, no website), I've done a T44 turbo side marker for much
the same reason. I used a 4-LED diamond shaped array from Laser
LED's, which is intended for a 12V PC case power supply. I chose the
Amber color LED's in the "chrome" casing".
Anyway, like Chi's setup, the array does not require resistors. I too
wired
it to my city light circuit, red to +, black to -, and the array is
polarity sensitive.
To mount the little 2 cm (3/4") by 1.5 cm (1/2") array to the side
reflector, I
marked off on the reverse side of the reflector drill locations
corresponding
to the locations of the high intensity LEDs in the array. I drilled ONLY
through the reflective backing 4 1/8" diameter holes, deep enough for the
array body to rest directly against the reflective coating of the
reflector.
The LED's remain WELL below the surface of the reflector on the
outside (viewable side) of the reflector. I then used clear silicone
caulk
to attach the array to the reflector back.
The light is adequately bright, but definitely not up to standard side
marker
brightness. I due to refraction of the reflector and the backing, the
light actually
does fill in beyond just the LED's.
If I get a chance, I will try to post photos of the finished product, as
I'm not
about to take it apart to do a step by step. Sorry.
