Martin,
I think we are saying the same thing. I'm sure my termnology is not right
on - I meant cluster rather than board.
The main point is you need a 4kq peedometer/Instrument console to take apart
and swap over the relevant parts - namely the cluster which includes the
speedo, tach. Right no need to disassemble the cluster, but I did have to
remove everything which surrounded it.
Regarding the fastener used in the later glove-box in the '83 UrQ - I could
not get it to work right, so the wire tie solution presented itself and
worked fine. I may have been missing the relavant hardware, as the dash was
removed over a year ago and I had to scrounge up all the peices and source a
4kQ center console as I had sold the extra one I had. Chris S. @Force5
advised me that the center console from FWD coupe or 4000 would not work -
hump is larger and FWD one wont fit
It probably would be more straightforward if one has the parts car on hand
and can move stuff directly over. Memory and parts on hand work far better
than the diagrams.
Ben

BTDT. Yes, the surround is different and needs to be changed for the new
cover to fit properly, but no need to take the cluster apart... especially
not right down to the gauge boards....

you'll see exactly how they go and you should be able to duplicate the same
