My only worry would be what might happen to the plastic when the solvent 
hits it.

I was chasing this monkey myself a few years back, had a spare center 
bar to break open and look at, it all seemed to be too much trouble, ie, 
the bar won;t open up easily, gotta remove that silver paint, gotta make 
a reflector, install a bulb socket holder... in the end I managed to get 
a slightly cracked smoked center section that was left over from an old 
group buy.  It's got the proper set up for the rear fog.

I'd recommend conning, I mean paying, someone in Europe to get you a 
junkyard piece and send it to you.
