More on Pinging NG

I forgot to add one thing that may make a huge differnce. The pinging appears to me intermitant. There are times when I can take off with any amount of throttle and not hear any pinging, but most of the time it's there. And now that I went on a drive with pinging on my mind, I did notice the car is "peppier" when it's not pinging. Could there be a loose connection somewhere? Any suggestions what to check (I will get the timing checked, I don't have a timing light or know how to use one for that matter)...and yes, I have ordered a Bently, actually a sued one, got it for $50 including shipping...
