Hey David,

Mahle is THE good filter, you are right.
There was a recent thread about the ATF flushing of the engine, and it
seemed to work for some. I for one would not want to try it in my car,
and I'm not the only one who feels that way. Try to search the archives
for the thread.

Sometimes if your lifters are noisy a fresh oil change will take car of
it. Also make sure you're having your engine topped off. I like to use
Mobil1 15-50, but don't want to start a "what oil is better thread". If
all fails it's time to change the lifters.
