I would agree, no tach - car running check signal wire.

That is why I suggested looking at the ignition switch and and maybe a
little corrosion on the internal contacts ( yeah like contacts get corroded
:-P )  Since he has also replaced most of the obvious ignition parts seemed
the logical next step.

Like I said just some thoughts to explore,
