Help no gauges! 1987 Audi Coupe GT

Well I have tried everything I can see or think of and I can't find the
short. The wires leading from the fuse appear to go through the fire wall
and into the engine compartment (I know this doesn't make sense but that's
what it looks like). I also can't seem to be able to find all the
connectors from what I can see in Bently (I don't even know if I isolated
every wire going to that fuse). But everything I have tried logically
should isolate the circuits ... but the short persists. So I guess I'm
going to visit my mechanic and see what he can find. Thanks for all the
help anyway.
