I have a 5KTQ with the 1.8bar chip done, and Bilsteins. I only have the
Bilsteins on the rear at the moment, I am most likely doing the fronts later
this week. I too deleted my cat, and also got rid of the end of the exaust
(the final muffler right before and including the tips) and just put in some
straight pipe and new dual tips. The 1.8bar chip is really nice, makes it
into a totally new car. I like the chip method better then the hack, in my
opinion its more of like the right way to do it, not cheating. If you need a
chip I can burn you one for $20. Either way you go though you really should
get a boost gauge. The factory digital in-dash thing totally sucks. The
resolution is bad (1.5-1.59999 still displays as 1.5), and its reaction time
is pretty bad too. I'm running a temporary big VDO 3bar boost gauhe borrowed
from a Porsche 935 race car until my new Autometer gauge comes in and I have
it like wedged between the dash and the windshield right dead center above
the factory digital gauge so I can compare. When I wath them closely I see
not only the resolution differance (obvious) but I see that the 'real' gauge
will show higher and more accurate readings under hard acceloration, eg.
step on it in 2nd and the analog gauge reads 1.2 bar before the digital gets
to .8bar, and worse the more suddenly you get on boost. The exaust setup
like I have I like too, its not very loud but has a good sound to it and
lets you hear some of the turbo-typical crackling when your deceling. The
Bilsteins are great too, gives a much better ride on the sport side, though
my factory shocks were in not so great condition before the swap so I may be
a bit mislead by the differance. Before the rear felt sqiushy, almost like a
Caddy, now its nice and firm.
