The consensus that I received in some off-list posts is that a lot of
people have the same symptoms after re-assembling the steering
wheel/steering column. Honestly I think I could get used to it since
you can't actually move the steering wheel in unless you push on it
decently hard. The only thing that needs fixing is the fact that the
horn goes off if you push it all the way in. Someone mentioned to me
that you can fix the horn part by turning the lock washers the other way
around so they point outward rather than inward.
Still curious why on re-assembly it seems to always leave a bit of
slack.. those lock washers really didn't want to hold the spring in any
tighter no matter how hard I tried.
I'll try flipping around the washers next weekend to see how it goes.
