While I did dispense with the stock latch, I did implement the same
feature a different way.
I used some crimp ferrules with steel cable attached via a quick link
connected to a metal loop I welded to the upper core support. The other
end of the cable is secured to the hood with a clevis and cotter pin.
If my hood pops open for some reason it won't fly all the way up. As

So, you'd have to find out what the inspection stations require in your
area for a "hood latch".
