When I did my 90Q a year or two ago, it wasn't pretty, but I simply kept
wrecking at it until there no longer an old crank seal in existence. In
other worse, after the "tricks" failed, I just kept doing nasty things
to it until its little spring thing was tortured out.

I relied on my trusty brake tool to do most of the destruction (it's
like a dental pick on steroids), as I recall.

Just try not to scratch the crank or oil pump surfaces (too much).

It is certainly easy to remove the seal with the oil pump removed, you
can just push it out by hand. A lot of work if you are left not
trusting your oil pan gasket, though. Good time to install a windage
tray, though.
