Slave cylinder stuck in tranie?

Well,

Patient is my 1987 Coupe GT 2.3. It's in the shop (local general mechanic) to have the clutch slave cylinder replaced (sagging/sticking clutch pedal even after replacing master). He just called me, he cannot get the dying slave out of the tranie. He was able to get the hose off and knock the spring/barrell pin out, but he cannot get the slave out. Is there a trick to it? Something he may be missing? He's now suggesting that I take it to the DEALER and have them drop the tranie then remove it.
