  Paul,

This exact thing just happend to me but the coolant
was all over the driver side,
went out this morn to -3deg to warm the 200 up,
let it idle in the driveway for a few minutes & left
while driving I noticed there was no heat but my temp
guage was climbing
next the coolant warning light went off & I noticed
alot of smoke under the hood (& I mean alot) a few
people even stopped to see if everything was ok as I
pulled over. I noticed there was no coolant in the
tank,
so I opened it & coolant started to come back from
the lower hose attatched to the bottom of the
reservior not the small return hose on top of the
reservior. Like you I was a few miles away from home
so I filled the reservior back up & got home.
After an inspection I didn't notice any thing wrong
no split hoses no crack in the reservior so I filled
everything back up again with a mix of 60 antifreeze &
40 distiled water (I was using 50-50) & let the car
idle in the driveway,
this time I noticed the heat was working and the temp
guage was staying were it should be.
I think that maybe the thermostat wasn't opening or?
I allso did notice the auxilary rad pump was leaking a
little bit but after everything seemed normal it
wasn't. I'm befudled as well.
If you find anything let pass it on.
Thanks
Ron
