I think the whole question of them existing or not is redundant. Here's

I left out the remarks column to fit the table here. It mostly just 
stated "2 doors" or "4 doors", along with country-specific model markings.

Note that all pre-facelift (83-84) 80 quattros were 5-cyl, but the 
following models (listed here) were all 4-cyl, and the 5-cyl engine was 
reserved for the 90 quattro. Type 81 or 85? Check the first two digits 
of the sales code. The 5-cyl model (not listed here), ie. 90, was 85x 
xxx. It'd be pretty safe to bet these numbers are in the VINs, too.

It would also seem that a lower level 4kq was never sold, ie. there is 
no corresponding U.S. model for the post-facelift 80 quattro, the 
closest match being the 90q.
