Took a long hard look under the car last night.
Seems as though the noise I am hearing in my driveshaft is coming from the CV
joints. I had a hard time determining where it was coming from until I held
the front joing in place, and there was noticeable play in the shaft, with the
same happening on the rear end (Please, no giggling).
So, It seems as though the noise comes from both ends (I know a few people
like that), and, having travelled down a metal tube of a driveshaft, collided in
such a way as to produce some strange sound signature of indeterminate origin.
Now, the question is, how the hell do I get the shaft off, or is it even
worth doing? The bolts holding the shaft in place appear to be a combination of
hex and torx head, not the triple-square / twelve point heads like on the
headbolts and 4 other driveshafts. I can only think that this points to work
having been done on the driveshaft before, which further confirms my suspicions
which where arroused by non-metric (and highly rusted) bolts on one of the cats.
Any hints on getting these damn bolts off?
Thanks,
Tom
