What year is this car? There were two different head
units (in dash, buttons & LEDs) and two corresponding
"programmers" (solenoids and springy motor thingy).

The break took place in _production_ sometime in 1986
model year. The "new" system had two fan speed
buttons on the right side of the control head-the
"old" system did not. The "new" system has diagnostic
capability, the "old" CC system did not.

At least in the US, the "old" system generally had a
GM/Delco compressor, the "new" system went to a
Japanese compressor.

The programmers look similar, but they are not
interchangable, nor are the control heads. Old+old
and new+new. Both the controller and the head unit
are GM Delco.

Years ago, I was once able to buy just the spring
loaded motor on the programmer by taking the motor to
the local Olds/Cadillac dealer. Audi was only selling
a rebuilt programmer, that's it.

HTH.
