I bought a Nakamichi CD 400 new, on ebay. It was a bit pricey, but my
two criteria were 1. red/orange illumination and 2. no funky-ghetto-boy
flashy lights and displays. There is a pic of it here:

You really can't tell, but it has a nice mellow reddish-orange glow.
The rest is simple, tasteful black. I think it might have had a green
option as well?
I can't remember if it has a built in amp to drive speakers as I didn't
want or care about that, but it probably does.

Most aftermarket DIN sized head units come with a metal cage that you
slide into the rectangular hole in the console and fasten by bending
back various metal tabs. The unit then slides into this and locks into
place. The head unit will also have a screw-in rubber bumper thing on
the back that should fit into a metal bracket (on most cars) to stop the
rear from bouncing up and down.
