Here's how I've done it (tie rod on a Coupe Gt for example).

Take a puller like this one:

and put it on the tie rod "upside down".  You can put a nut in between the rod end and the screw of the puller, since that little point will pierce the rod end.

Screw it down to apply pressure on the rod end into the strut housing.  This should be enough to hold it in place while you turn the nut on the other side.

I was working on the front suspension today. The tie
rod on my car has a ball joint to the strut like a lot
of other cars.

QUESTION: What is the secret to screwing a nut onto a
ball joint that works; meaning it swivels and rotates.
I cannot figure a way to fix the ball joint hard
enough to keep it from rotating while putting a Nyloc
nut on it. What am I missing here?
