I had the same problem on my '95 Mk1 Golf. No matter what I did the tie
rod would not come out. Got a mechanic from down the road to look at it
and with about 3 hard knocks with hammer it just popped out. Turns out
you deliver some firm blows to the end of the arm holding the tie-rod,
inwards towards the vehicle.
