I know the Type 85 hitches have a non-removable ball (well you can unbolt it), instead
of the removable receiver.

That is not what I wanted to hear. I need to get a trailer hitch for my Coupe GT, but there is no way in hell I'm putting on a permaent mount one. Are there any manufacturers that make a removable receiver hitch for the Coupe GT? Even one of the wimpy 1.25" ones would be fine...it's only a 14' boat...

The 4000 hitches I've seen are pretty good in that they bolt into the rear bucket and distribute the load quite nicely. Although you could probably get away with even drilling a hole in the bumper and bolting a ball directly into it, I think you'll be better served by getting one that does not use the bumper to provide the structural support. The bumper should carry on ly a fraction of the load.
