try using a large allen wrench, short leg stuck into the holes of the
pulley tot he "left" of the camshaft, long leg propped against the front
engine mount/snubber bracket thing:

new studs from dealer (cheap). new nuts, stainless steel is nice. new
rubber cam cover gasket. make sure gasket & studs match (shouldered vs.
non-shouldered)

they are 11 mm bolts. not sure which triple square it is, but the 3- or
4-packs that FLAPS sell (under "VW tools") will contain the right one.
make a soap impression of one if you want to check while you're at the
store.
