unintended acceleration

This is my first Audi, so for some of you that have been into them for a
while this may be old hat, but stick with me.
My car is an '84 5000 wagon (Avant--whatever that means--according to TFH).
It seems whenever I let the clutch out to take off from a stop, the car
accelerates slowly. I remember hearing about unintended acceleration in
Audis when I was a teenager, but I didn't really know what that meant. Now
it seems I understand--I intend for the car to accelerate briskly, but
unintentionally (?) it doesn't do that. Can anyone confirm this?

proud '84 5000S wagon avant front wheel drive five speed owner, yo!

P.S. I can't for the life of me see how this would cause someone to crash
into their house. Seems all the damage would be in the back from faster
vehicles like VW vanagons slamming into the back of you.
