AoA might have decided fallout from customers might be too great.
Sadly, they might be right.

People might be very suspicious of an oil-change reminder system
that's dynamic, and more importantly, designed by the manufacturer.
In fact, I bet my local TV stations with their pushy "consumer"
"reporters" would have a field day with it. All it would take would
be one hysterically paranoid customer screaming about how their 'car
told them it needed to have its oil changed at 3,500 miles- when all
his/her friends cars and owners manuals said 5,000 miles per oil
change!' , it's a ploy by the manufacturer to get extra maintenance
fees, etc.

Sadly, industry's failure to treat customers fairly has turned around
and bitten them on the ass; their customers don't trust them worth a
damn.
