is the ECU from a '87 5kTQ the same ECU that was used on a '86 5kT automatic?

Yes, but the fuel/timing map may be different. I've seen them used interchangeably with no undesirable results. Once a QLCC (or other) chip is installed the code is different anyway. MAC-10 has some differences in circuitry than MAC-11B/C but is interchangeable and MAC-11B is only different from MAC-11C due to the EPROM code.

IIRC the code for the automatic is intended to get the torque toward the lower end, however I have found both 11B and 11C ECUs in both '86 and '87 and in both auto and manual when scouring for used ECUs. Don't know if the 11C may have been installed post-factory. Apparently it doesn't make much if any difference.

Ben
