Found the fuel pump relay under the driver's side dash, cryptically
labelled by Audi as "87a/DIESEL". Lower most right position. Didn't
realize 87a was fuel pump track, and didn't dawn on me that a relay
wouldn't be in that position if the socket was Diesel only. Duh.
Anyway, removed the relay, squeezed it per Phil Payne's tips,
reinstalled, and ....
Car Starts, and runs. This seems to be supported by the fact that the
last time I drove the car (1 hr trip) there was a buzz underdash that
also dimmed the headlights. I thought something in the headlight
circuit was amiss, but it appears now that the fuel pump relay was
suspect. A new relay is on order.
Thanks, list.
