Hi,

I can't help but toss this in. I considered an Optima in my last
replacement and wound up buying a Diehard which was smaller than recommended
but works good. The Diehard replaced an AC Delco which I used for over 10
years and it had some hard use and wear; I didn't want it in the first
place but installed it in February 1992; I replaced it in June 2003.

During my research I found on the Diehard web pages that some batteries are
designed for cold weather and others designed for warmer climes. BTW, the
Diehard specified for my car wouldn't fit in the well under my back seat so
I selected one with smaller dimensions that has worked well since installed.
I don't experience very cold weather, however.

Now I'm glad I didn't get an Optima, which seemed like the best of all
worlds when I bought my last battery; you could even get them at CostCo
then but at a much higher price. I suspect that CostCo will have dropped
them if they fail as regularly as this thread indicates.

Cheers!

Jim Jordan
