Another 'classic' cause of lack of power is a clogged catalytic converter. If
it's insides have started to come apart, the converter becomes essentially a
plug in the exhaust system. Car will usually run OK (At idle, and low power)
but not be happy as soon as any serious power is expected (as no exhaust can
get through the clogged catalytic converter).
If the catalytic converter is not welded onto the exhaust, it should be
realativly easy to remove it, and take a look at.
It'll be quite self evident if it's broken inside...!
GOod luck!
