You are mistaken on that.

Being only 1 tooth off though, as Duncan said, is very very unlikely to have 
hurt anything. The pictures above were from an improperly torqued crankshaft 
pulley bolt (by the PO's shop) that came loose after about 600 miles. If it 
had damaged anything you would be able to tell. Sometimes if a valve is very 
very very slightly bent the engine will run fine once its off idle, but will 
idle pooly. I've seen them off two and three teeth and still be ok, so you 
should be golden.
