Check the archives for: Schrick 272 camshaft review - Updated (long)
Do not advance the cam and set your timing back to 6 degrees. Check for
Air leaks then re-check again. Then test the NTC temp sensor according
to the Bentley. These can fail to either 0 or a large resistance BTDT.
Make sure the car is running right with stock settings prior to
experimenting with cam or ignition timing. The Schrick 272, from which
this cam was copied, was designed to run at stock specs. These engines
don't like more than 34-36 deg total advance which is already there with
a combination of the vacuum and centrifugal advance curves. If you are
going to play with timing do it right and get your distributor
re-curved. Not worth the money IMHO but it is the correct way. Oh Yes,
Don't forget to check you vacuum advance canister for a leaky diaphragm.
Take two aspirin and call me in the morning.

IIRC, With a 272 cam, you need to advance the timing by quite a bit to
get it to idle properly and to run right at lower RPMS.
