Seems to me that what you need a basically a "clutch job" performed with
a hopefully "known good" used transmission on hand to swap in.

Clutch job in the big city will cost what, 700-1000? A local trusted
used tranny should be another couple-three bennies. A long distance one
would also cost freight.

Figuring out a way to do the work yourself with help of
friends/neighbors and their space would save big labor dollars, so you
can justify treating them very kindly for their assistance.

You'll need four big-size jackstands, a decent jack, a good assortment
of tools (but not many "specialized" ones) and a few odd gaskets and
seals in addition to the clutch parts. If you have everything on hand,
the job ought to be over in a weekend.

Otherwise you'll need a trusted independent shop. At least you can
drive the car to them, so you can look in a large radius of where you live.

The only tough part is finding a transmission that the seller "knows" is
good.
