I like this 'feature' too. Of cours I may be influenced by the fact that 
my heater valve is seized, and I use centre flaps in summer for cool 
air, and can still demist the windscreen in winter. Also prevents me 
melting while demisting the windscreen on those rainy summer days.

Really should fix that heater valve some time soon.... hmm...
