That is if the engine is being started against the fluid...

When I hydrolocked my coupe, it caused a piston to cock slightly, 
nicking the cylinder wall, which allowed about 340 degree of rotation 
either way, but it wouldn't go past the nick.  Who knows what other 
damage internally was associated with that.  This was at low to moderate 
engine speed (trying to ford a deeper flood than I thought).

Luckily, I suppose, I didn't damage the flywheel or starter trying to 
crank it after that.  I tried, it just didn't damage it...
