So did the lorry driver show up in a diesel, or a gas truck?

FWIW, I experienced something strangely similar in 2001.

Three cars stalled out on the highway ramp just above the commuter rail line 
by the cement plant in Boston.  I though I heard/felt a HUM just before it 
conked out.......
Then the next car rolled into the breakdown lane.....and a 
third..............all stopped running.  The other  says to me: "you too?"

Wierd huh?

MAC it was in the 200 20V.

As for a side bar issue, when bag (cell), 3 watt phones ruled the world, I 
used to set it on the dash top in the 4000 quattro.  The radio would buzz JUST 
before a phone call would come in.

And if the cell was in a sweet spot on the dash, the motor would buck, but 
mostly lose power (still ran) in the first few seconds of a cell call being 
placed.......then clear up.

Strange, but probably explainable....
