'87 4kq: alternator belt change

I wound up taking the car to Golf Jetta service in Seattle's Greenwood 
district, and they turned it around pretty quickly. Adam, the mechanic, 
said I'd done everything right as far as it went, but apparently I 
hadn't hitched the alternator over as far as I could have (and thought 
I had).

Given the fact that I could have worked on it only on weekends, and we 
get a lot of rain at this time of year, I didn't want to risk having 
the sun set tomorrow evening with the belt still off. If this happens 
again, I'll keep the trick in mind of turning the engine (which I 
didn't get to try). I got a spare belt, a genuine Conti, while I was at 
it. The most helpful posts are going into my dedicated Audifans archive 
folder. Thanks to all who responded!
