Far easier (on an A4 at least, no experiance with others) is a procedue 
refered to as "Service Mode" by those in-the-know. Remove just the bumper (2 
bolts, plus the little fender liner screws), then 3 bolts on each bumper 
shock, then 6 small torx bolts holding the core support to the chassis and 
voila, the front clip swings out and down, gives PLENTY of room to work 
without touching any wiring (actually disconnecting headlight wiring allows 
the assembly to move 6 inches more, but the lights stay attached), no 
coolant loss, and it only take about 15 minutes. This is fresh in my mind 
because I just did a T-belt and water pump on a B4 A4 last week.
