Subject: 84 4KSQ Accelerator (Pedal) Linkage"
Hello All,
After another frustrating trip through the Bentleys I still cannot find any
information on the linkage.at the gas pedal.for my 84 4KSQ. The Bentleys
does illustrate the linkage (not mine BTW) on the engine side of the
firewall, but I need information detailing the linkage from the gas pedal to
the firewall. It appears that two rubberish/corkish um, "gaskets" have
deteriorated to the point where they have fallen off of their "posts". I
went to back the car into the driveway this morning and found the gas pedal
laying forward on the floor. A subsequent inspection located the metal
gasket "mount" laying on the carpet well beneath the dashboard. My clearly
belated question is: short of locating these "gaskets", what material can I
replace them with? My knee-jerk solution would be to replace them with
rubber plugs with holes drilled though the plugs.but I know what will happen
to the rubber when the temperature outside drops below freezing. I can't
move the car until I fix this.any BTDT's or recommendations? Any help would
be immensely appreciated. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can
provide. Oh, and have a good weekend!
Regards,
George B.

Hi George,
Hook some strong string up to the throttle body and run it in through the driver window. Pull the string to give the car gas.
If it's the bushings on the pivot bar/rod in the middle of the pedal assembly, the part number for these is 803 723 559. You need 2. World Impex lists these for $1.71/ea
If it's the bushings at the top of pedal assembly connecting to the cable, part number is 431 721 559. These are rubber and are $6.11/ea. Here's the World Impex listing:

Others have recommended using 191 723 559 as a substitue for the 431 part. The 191 part is plastic and will last longer. Cheaper too, at $1.71
