Soft VW Passat brakes

Peter-
Do you have another dealer to go to?

What exactly did they check? There is no way that every car does that.

I would make sure that the car's brake hydraulic system is working properly
and holds
pressure first- check all of the soft brake lines, the hard lines, the brake
master cylinder,
the ABS pump.

If there are no leaks, then do a full system bleed- all four calipers, then
the master cylinder
and finally the clutch cylinders. This should be pressure bled, lessens the
chance of air getting
in and the end result should be no air in the system.

Our A4 never had any issues like what you describe and yes, it does have the
same brake
components.

If all else fails and you do not have a dealer alternative, you should look
for a good independent
German car (preferably someone experienced with VWs and Audis) mechanic. One
possible
indicator of competence would be to look for an authorized Bosch service
center- at least this
certification requires certain training and standards.

Do you mind telling us where you're located so that we might be able to
provide specific recommendations
on dealerships and/or mechanics?

Taka
