cooling fans stay on so long that they drain my battery

It could be the switch or the relay sticking. You 'll be able to tell which one
if you run the engine till the gauge goes halfway. Then connect the switch to a
ohmmeter and shut down the engine. Watch the resistance on the switch. It
should be read as a short, but after a few minutes of the fan running, the
switch should open up and go to infinite resistance. If it does and the fan
stays on, then the switch is fine; the relay is sticking. Otherwise you have a
bad switch. good luck.

I have tried disconnecting the switch in the radiator but this does not stop
the fan. If I disconnect the after-run switch the fan stops. Do you think I am
replacing the wrong thing?
