I've been waiting for an appropriate line to quote to comment on this.
Where I live is somewhat unique in that I am about 200 feet from the
"road to anywhere" - a 55 mph highway I usually turn left on, that has a
blind curve a few hundred yards "to the right".

Meaning, if I follow the old-school VAG intructions of "don't warm it
up, just drive", I am at that stop sign with a cold engine, and when I
pull out I never know in advance if I might have to goose it because a
semi just came around the corner behind me.

Meaning, at least once or twice a week I red line the thing in second
less than 60 seconds after starting a cold engine. Never seen any
problems with this, but then again, I'm not doing it to a turbocharged
engine.
