Your master is on the way out, and your slave is usually not far behind.
This is THE failure mode, one day the pedals fine, another day it only
comes up half way, another day it's on the floor but will come up if you
manually bring it up with your foot. Then one day it just says *&$@ it
and stays down, you push it up and the next day it's firm again.
