Cost of '96 A6 Quattro engine

How much should an engine cost (long block or complete) for a '96 A6
Quattro? My engine has really high mileage, and has a few "noises", and
while I haven't checked it out yet to determine exactly what it is, I am
thinking ahead in case it comes down to replacing the engine.

Just curious what kind of prices are out there for rebuilt or used engines
for these.

Or maybe it would be easier/cheaper to rebuild mine if it needs it, I don't
know?

Has anyone done a TT swap in a '96 A6 Quattro Avant before? That would be
something I'd consider, if I could make it happen without too much trouble.
