Speedo Cable Repair - NAC, but some VWC so still in the family

I suspect solder might not be strong enough, you ought to try brazing it.

I see no reason why a hack job shouldn't sort kinda work for a few weeks.

On my 82 coupe I got tired of breaking speedo cables at the OXS counter 
box, so I managed to find a one piece cable, but that was years ago. 
Don't know if a cable from another car would fit your beast, but I guess 
you've got the right "wrong" part on the way already.
