For a little anecdote, another good long running part is VW's brake  
light switch that started on the Beetle (the real one) and was used   
by Porsche as late as 1998 (except a stint in the 80's when Porsche  
used a 3 pin switch with both NC and NO contact). I have never checked  
to see if water cooled P-cars use it, but I bet they don't.
