IIRC there are ducts and vacuum lines attached to the box inside the cabin, I'd recommend you try to find them and disconnect before pulling and prying too much.  Once the gasket is free the box shouldn't be too difficult to remove.

Aha! That's a much better explanation of your problem. 

Yes, you must pull and pry rather hard. Last time I did one I broke it loose with a large pry bar, then (with the hood off which makes the whole ordeal much better) I stood above the blower housing, grabbed on, and pulled. A lot.
