Good point ... sorry, I was responding to the others in the thread. You don't need to completely remove the heater box to do the blower motor ... you remove the holddown strap and raise the box just enough to get at the three screws that hold the access cover for R&R of the blower. Much, much easier than most cars ...

I have a friend who has a '87 CS 5000 turbo quattro, and the blower
motor does not blow air (gets a little cold in the winter). He thinks
that there may be a rats nest in the blower, but he cannot open it to
get to the motor. He took out the dash and all the bolts around the
housing, but cannot open the housing. He is considering using a dremmel
tool to cut open the housing to get inside, but would like to avoid
that, if possible. He is seriously thinking of selling the car if he
cannot get into the housing.
Any suggestions?
