Radiator woes

I don't know for sure about 84 models, but on my 1990 200 turbo the 
tranny oil cooler runs a bit different than we Americans are used 
to.  The tranny cooler lines leading to the radiator run coolant back 
to a water to oil cooler mounted on the transmission.  If this is the 
case, you could just leave the lines either blocked off or just 
unconnected.  Typically on cars over here transmission fluid is piped 
up to the radiator.
