Nick in Columbus OH wins the lovely parting gifts. The CEL was a knock sensor issue. 

The "knock" was the belt for the hydraulic pump loose knocking on the timing belt cover.

I checked the TB just in case but it was fine and I could barely do the 90 degree twist-o-flex thingy.

Tightened the belt for the pump and no more shazaam motor light.

On a side note I hope the engineer that came up with the alternator belt tensioner doo-dad is burning in the hottest place in hell...I spent and hour futzing with that critter before I got the pry bar out and did it cave-man style.

It's an ECU symbol meaning that there's an engine electrical problem.  Could be knock, too many misfires, etc.
 
Scan the car first.

I don't have an owners manual and my shop manual is still packed away with Jimmy Hoffa's body. I don't think either can or will be seen again.

Any clues would be greatly appreciated...
