No way to tell for sure. Heater cores can be small leaks. Check your oil and
hope not to see any brwon goo.

Ok, but does the low coolant signify a leak?  No visible signs.

Sounds like it was a bit low to me, simple as that. Mine does the same thing
on cold mornings when it's low or near the min line.
