2001 A4 2.0T tip oil light question

Probably a plugged oil screen from sludge. Or perhaps worn bearings.
Certainly major engine damage has occurred if the car has been driven with
the oil light on. My advice would be to ditch the car as quickly as possible
before it throws a rod. Or rebuild the engine.
